Notes For Residents

There are several common areas in Green Quad. Every floor has a study lounge with a full kitchen. Also, the lobby levels of Buildings A and C have classrooms that are used for general programming and University 101 classes. The staff uses these rooms for building events and floor meetings. The Learning Center is open to students 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Friday. For schedule changes and additional hours of operation, please contact the front desk.

Front Desk

Green Quad Building - A desk is staffed 24 hours a day. Housing staff works 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 midnight and contracted security guards work 12:00 midnight - 8:00 a.m. If you lock yourself out, simply go to the desk in the building A lobby to get a temporary key. You may keep this key for up to 72 hours. After that, your locks will be changed and you will be charged $75.

Keys

You will be issued a key to your room. You must carry this key at all times. A lock change is $75, so hang on to your keys!

Maintenance

University Housing provides an array of maintenance services. For any problems concerning your apartment, call 777-FIXX.

Telephone Service

Beginning Fall 2007, telephone landlines inside student rooms will not be available. Recent research from University Housing and University Technology Services indicates students are not using these lines and using mobile devices instead. However, students will still have the ability to request a landline in their rooms for a one-time setup fee and additional monthly fee. Long distance service is also available. These options will be available through VIP beginning with the Fall 2007 semester.

Laundry Service

You must use your Carolina Card.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not allowed in any USC building or within 25 feet of any university building.

Insurance

You will want to protect all the items you bring with you. Renter's insurance is recommended and a pamphlet is mailed along with your assignment packet.

Pets

Fish are the only pets allowed and can be in a tank no larger than 20 gallons. If you plan to bring an aquarium, please be sure to discuss this with your roommate prior to arrival.

Parking Services

If you plan to park on campus, you must purchase a decal from the Pendleton Street Garage, located at 1501 Pendleton St. A 12-month decal can be purchased for $40. Bicycle racks are available near the building and at the bottom of stairwells. Please be sure to lock up your bicycle to prevent theft. All bicycles parked on campus must be registered with Parking Services.

Employment Opportunities

University Housing is always looking for students to work at Green Quad’s desk. This job is a great way to get to know other students. If you are interested in working at the desk, please contact your Assistant Residence Life Coordinator. Preference is given to applicants with College Work-Study. Utilizing Public Transportation

Public transportation is an effective way to reduce environmental impact and to save money. Our location is near two city bus stops and a campus shuttle stop that provides easy access to public transportation. USC is committed to energy conservation through the use of buses run on bio-diesel fuel, which is a combination of virgin soybean oil and regular diesel fuel. USC is also working to implement a bus that operates with a fuel cell for studying more widespread use of this technology. See below for bus stop locations.
